"It's Hidin' Time" is the fifth episode of Centaurworld.

Official Synopsis[]

The friends seek shelter in a cave during a storm... but they're not alone. While looking for an exit, they discover strange paintings on the walls.

Plot[]

It's Hidin Time - not food

Hey Horse. Are these food?

After leaving the lost forest, the herd is climbing up a canyon, with Horse carrying the still sleeping Wammawink on her back. Everyone else is getting tired and hungry, and suggest waking Wammawink up as she's the only one who can make food, Horse shuts the idea down as Wammawink still needs to sleep and suggests they forage instead. However, everyone's suggestions are inedible, and Durpleton admits that he has no idea where food comes from, Horse tries to teach them, only to realize that her food always came from Rider and she doesn't know either.

It's Hidin Time - herd afraid

Watch your back

Just then, everyone hears music in the distance, which turns out to be a group of forest dwelling centaurs, who sing a song warning the herd of a beartaur living nearby. It begins raining shortly after, and Horse suggests taking shelter in a nearby cave, though the others are reluctant to as they believe a beartaur lives there. In the cave, the herd finds a pair of human shoes, as well as the Beartaur, who Wammawink subconsciously knocks out with her magic before falling back into deeper sleep. While this saves them from the immediate threat, the opening to the cave is now blocked, and Ched suggests looking for another opening.

While searching, they find a mural on the cave wall depicting centaurs fighting alongside humans against the minotaurs, which raises the question of who could have painted them, as Horse is seemingly the only one in Centaurworld who would know about such things. However, those questions are set aside as they are still trapped in the cave; Horse suggests that she distract the Beartaur when he wakes up so the others can escape, but ends up arguing with Ched and waking up the Beartaur before they can settle on a plan.

IHT My Collection

"I'd like to show you my collection"

The others escape with the still sleeping Wammawink, who they try to wake up while Horse is captured by the Beartaur; however, he turns out to be a history enthusiast who has created a full diorama of Centaurworld's war. While he's happy to show Horse his creation as the locals fear him and never come near his home, he also intends to make Horse a part of it by covering her in varnish (the one thing he hasn't been able to successfully carve a figure of is a horse).

Meanwhile, the rest of the herd finally succeeds in waking up Wammawink, who makes gigglecakes for everyone before realising that Horse is missing and going to rescue her. Horse insists that she stay outside, and proceeds to trick the Beartaur by pointing out flaws in his figures, kicking over the bucket of varnish when his back is turned, and fleeing the cave while he's distracted. As she's celebrating her escape, Horse's hair transforms into a fluffier, rounder style more in line with Centaurworld, much to her dismay.

She believes this is the Beartaur's doing, but Wammawink assures her it's the result of magic beyond his abilities and that the change is a good thing. When she makes a gigglecake for Horse, Durpleton realises that food is made from love, which Wammawink affirms before the herd continues on to the home of the next Shaman.

It's Hidin Time - cave painting

The cave had two holes all along

Elsewhere, the Mysterious Woman enters the cave from a secret entrance at the back wall where the mural is located. She scales the wall and adds a fresh painting of Horse to the mural using the blood of a ladybugtaur she crushed. The Woman remarks that Horse is getting "closer and closer" to finding the truth.

Trivia[]

  • According to series creator Megan Nicole Dong[1], this episode is unofficially considered "Holes: Part 1".
  • Also according to the series creator, this episode's namesake song was influenced by Appalachian murder ballads[2].
  • On one of the Beartaur's shelves, a few interesting books can be seen, including:
    • History of Centaurworld
    • Pony Tales
    • Dune
  • Small replicas of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek can be seen on one of the Beartaur's shelves.
  • The mosquitotaur shown biting Ched is biologically accurate; the mosquitotaur is portrayed as female, and only female mosquitos bite to draw blood, which they need to lay their eggs.
  • There is a slight visual discrepancy towards the end of the episode: the section of the beartaur's cave wall where the mural is located featured a large rock marking the Woman's entrance. However, earlier in the episode this same wall had no rock in that very spot.
  • Items stolen by Glendale: lava lamp, beartaur-sized fedora hat
    • Honorable mentions: Zulius' giggle cake, Wammawink - failed attempts
